Effectiveness of music intervention using local songs in managing agitation among elderly with Dementia  2016-06-16

The Elderly Services Section of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) invited the Centre on Behavioral Health (CBH) of the University of Hong Kong to conduct a study from October 2014 to September 2015 on music and movement intervention on elders with dementia and its effectiveness in improving their behavioral and psychological symptoms. The project was supported by the Social Welfare Department’s Social Welfare Development Fund (Phase 2). The organising committee held a press conference at the centre on June 14 to introduce the project and disseminate research findings.

In order to better understand the causes and impacts of early onset dementia in the Chinese population, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has set up a research registry programme for patients suffering from dementia before the age of 65. Infertility is a life challenge for couples. Infertile couples experience psychosocial distress before, during and after treatment. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) (so-called test-tube baby) is the treatment of choice for long standing infertility. However, IVF is considered as a physically and demanding process, especially for women who are highly involved during the treatment process. In our society, there is insufficient recognition of, and support for, the needs of infertile women within their social and familial networks.
