Caring the children is the extremely normal and reasonable attitudes of the parents towards their children. However, the over reaction is very dangerous which could lead to misleading. Putting the wrong methods or attitudes on their children will affect the direction, and obstruct their learning. One of the hot topics amongst the Hong Kong parents is the disorder of the children in reading or writing. Most of the parents are being perplexed by this disorder whether their children have this disorder or not?

How could we definite the above disorders? Regarding reading, writing and mathematics in DSM (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), they have the briefly definition.

It is talking about a child who is "in his or her substantially below those expected given the person's chronological age, measured intelligence, and age-appropriate education." If we discover that they present a sensory deficit, the difficulties in writing, reading or mathematics are in excess of those usually associated with it.

Moreover, the disturbance in special aspect significantly interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily living, such as reading skills or mathematical ability. Or the disturbance in the composition of written texts, e.g., writing grammatically correct sentences and organized paragraphs.

If they present the above scenarios for a long period, they might be had one of the disorders, or more than one. However, if they are not presenting for a long period or intermittent only, some cases the children present very well during childhood. In these cases, your children should be checked by some experts for avoiding the misdiagnosis.

If the misdiagnosis happens, the children will be guided by the special learning methods which will affect the developmental problems. One of the psychological problems is feeling that he is a special or abnormal child. Also, he or she cannot study in the normal academic school. It will create the unnecessary barrier for children developing normally.

Why we have to worry about this? Because most of the children, they are easily triggered by emotion, and cause the distraction. For example, blaming by the parents or seniorities, lost some important things, broken relationship with the best friend or out of teacher's favor, even the discording with one of the family members. These undisclosed or insidious feelings will draw the incongruent and arouse unhappy, irritated, sluggish or other psychological stresses that affect their performance on studying, whatever reading, writing or mathematics.

Actually, this is not the developmental or learning disorders, this is psychological or affective disorder purely. Their problematic performances is the projection but haven't been recognized by the parents only. Thus, know more about your children, and could not misunderstand their behaviours.

During the growth of children, there are many developmental or learning disorders that the parent has to pay are attention on your children, such as speech, swallowing, coordination and whatnot. Parent should remind oneself all the time, overlook or exceeding attitude both will solve the problems difficultly.
