Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder
My little daughter went out with me last Sunday. When we walked in the street, an oncoming teenager who did emit the sound repetitiously, and she felt curious. It is not a big deal, due to the diaphragm twitching or other reasons that would emit the sound uncontrollably. But it arouses my mind to think about Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder. What is this? Chronic Motor or Vocal Tics Disorder, is a kind of motor or vocal tics which happen suddenly, rapidly, recurrently, non-rhythmically or stereotyped motor movement or vocalization persistently. That is the simple introduction from DSM (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health). In general, the onset of this disorder will be before age 18 years. There are single or multiple motor or vocal tics, but not both. Both happen are another disorder probably, called Tourette's Disorder. A day, almost every day the tics occur, or intermittently throughout more than a year. Even though it has stopped, it will not more than 3 consecutive months. Moreover, the tics create the disturbance, and this is not produced by the physiological effect by the substance or stimulants or a general medical condition. The most annoying is this disorder will cause the marked distress or striking impairment in social, occupational or other functioning. Sometimes, the Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder will have comorbid with pervasive developmental disorders. With regard to the complication of this disorder, please go to check by the professions if the parents discover the children or teenagers have the continuation of tics. Eddy Psychotherapist
