Don’t Worry When Your Baby Hiccough
It is both common and normal that newborn babies hiccough; they hiccough even when they are still in their mothers’ tummies. The best way to handle babies hiccoughing is let them hiccough, as babies hiccoughing is harmless to them. Although there are a lot traditional methods that are claimed to be able to tackle hiccough, the effect is quite questionable. For example, hitting the foot sole and drinking water are actually ways of checking hiccoughing through crying and nervous reactions in the action of drinking water. However, the effects are different on different babies. After all, the pain in hitting the sole is greater than hiccough itself; and it is troublesome having to drink water every time when babies hiccough. In fact, babies hiccoughing has a lot to do with back-pat (to release extra gas in babies’ stomachs after meals). If back-pat is not done properly, the gas will remain in babies’ stomachs, causing hiccough. Therefore, the best way to reduce hiccough is proper back-pat. Nevertheless, even if babies hiccough, we simply let them go on, and it will stop automatically in 3 minutes or so.
