Getting Ready for Pregnancy

Things to Prepare

Reduce caffeine – do not drink too much coffee, tea, chocolate, cola or other caffeinated drinks since caffeine adversely will affect the fetus.

 

No cigarettes & alcohol – Research shows that smoking increases the chance of miscarriage, premature birth, weight loss and the chance of sudden death, which is due to carbon monoxide and nicotine in smoke affect the fetus through the placenta, causing fetal hypoxia, rapid heartbeat and even death. Alcohol also can harm the fetus; excessive alcohol can lead to congenital heart disease and growth retardation.

 

Dental checkup – having dental surgery during pregnancy may have negative impact on the fetus. Therefore, in pre-pregnancy best to check teeth, fillings or tooth extraction, surgery can be carried out before pregnancy.

 

Balanced diet - a good diet can improve the chances of pregnancy. A good diet and pregnancy is closely related, a balanced diet can also ensuring the health of the fetus. Daily intake of dark green vegetables, fruits, grains and dairy products is advised. All the vitamins and minerals such as iron are important for fetal growth. Comparison of nutritional adequacy will be able to promote the rule of the menstrual cycle, making it easier to determine ovulation.

 

Contraceptive drugs – these drugs should not be taken 6 months before pregnancy since contraceptive drugs can have a affect on the sex of the fetus, as well have a higher risk of birth defects in baby.
