Heritage Fiesta 2014 In October

The Commissioner for Heritage's Office of the Development Bureau will host the Heritage Fiesta 2014 in October and November, featuring churches and temples which are either declared monuments or graded buildings. Notable historic religious buildings will be open to the public to showcase the rich heritage of Hong Kong.

A spokesman for the bureau said that many historic churches and temples in Hong Kong were well preserved. The event is a great opportunity for the public to understand and appreciate churches in different architectural styles and traditional Chinese temples.

The annual Heritage Fiesta has received tremendous support from the public since its inauguration in 2011. This year, the event will feature 11 churches and 11 temples. All participating historic buildings will be open to the public for free during specific opening hours. Some of the participating churches and temples will offer free guided tours on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can also collect special stamps at the participating churches and temples during their journey of heritage exploration.

Exhibitions displaying photos of featured historic buildings will be held at Pacific Place in Admiralty and the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui from today to 12 and October 14 to 29 respectively.

Complimentary pamphlets on Heritage Fiesta 2014 will be available at the featured historic buildings and the exhibition venues during the event period, the Hong Kong Museum of History in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Museum of Tea Ware in Central, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin and the Visitor Centres of the Hong Kong Tourism Board in Tsim Sha Tsui and at the Peak, as well as the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.
