Stress Urinary Incontinence

"Stress Urinary Incontinence" usually occurs in pregnancy, due to a long-term period of bearing the weight of the fetus in the pelvic and perineal muscles area which causes bladder oppressed, when the pressure is spread to the bladder, the bladder pressure is greater than the pressure of the urethra which leads to urinary incontinence. In particular, laughing, coughing, sneezing, and walking up and down the stairs and forced action. In addition during delivery period which more stress are on the urethra, when the bladder is full, these muscles can not hold the urine, resulting in urinary incontinence situation.

 

Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology point out, every prenatal or postnatal’s urinary incontinence situation differ from each other; as the week of pregnancy increased, more than half of pregnant women will likely to have "stress incontinence" conditions, resulting in poor quality of sleep.

 

 

In order to maintain a healthy pregnancy and postpartum, please pay special attention to the following:

 

1. Appropriate prenatal massage and pelvic muscle exercise.

2. Weight control and be sure to avoid too much fat or weight.

3. Develop regular toilet habits, eating fiber foods, drink plenty of water.

4. Do not deliberately reduce water intake, and also do not hold back.

5. Postnatal mother should pay attention to rest, do not lift heavy loads too early, and avoid fatigue.

6. Postnatal exercise is very important; they help speed up the perineal muscles recovery.

7. Lifting heavy loads with the correct posture to avoid abdominal pressure,.

8. Be optimistic with open-minded attitude, learn to regulate every mood and emotion.

 

 

Treatment

 

1. Exercise Training: perineal muscle excerise is the basic treatment for stress urinary incontinence, with emphasis on anal contraction, this treatment works on contraction of the anus, vagina and urethra in three parts, this help to make the perineal muscles become tougher.

2. Drug Treatment: help recover adrenaline, estrogen and so on.

3. Electrical Stimulation: a noninvasive treatment, the patient just sitting in a chair and switch on the system, the seat will be issued under the magnetic waves, pelvic and perineal muscles exercise, just like physiotherapy.

4. Surgery: For more serious medical treatment and medical method. In addition to traditional open surgery, the minimally invasive surgery, "the middle of tension-free urethral suspension surgery" will penetrate the body of a vaginal tape and the urethra, "prop" to treat urinary incontinence.
