In Hong Kong 741 kindergartens and several private schools is applying to the Bureau of Education to raise school fee in the new school year, accounting for 80%.

 Kindergarten Association, explained that most of the schools are requesting raise to 10%, generally participate in the voucher system for kindergarten, parents may need to pay a extra money per month, plus expenses was mainly due to staff salary adjustments, to improve school facilities and school rentals.

According to the Education Bureau, as of  mid of July, they have received 747 applications for adjustment of kindergarten fees, of which only six applications for fee reductions, fee increases for the remaining 741, In addition, there are 163 kindergartens, said fees remain unchanged.

Education Bureau is vetting these applications, permit as long as the income, expenditure items, financial situation and other factors will be taken into account in order to make tuition at a reasonable level, and as soon as possible to notify individual kindergarten school.

Kindergarten Association, Mr Tang point out that the majority of the applications made up the school fees of 10%, due to continuous learning to upgrade teachers qualifications, there is a need to adjust the salaries of teachers, kindergarten teachers in recent years, demand from the industry, with inflation below the face of continued high prices, school supplies and food expenditure.

However, many parents express their disappointment toward the increase of the kindergarten application fee, the voucher scheme, general school fees and the  non-stop fee- increase frequency building a heavy burden for their family, suggested that kindergartens and private schools should pay attention to cost-cutting instead.
