From You Tube to Desert

“Desert Dancer”, Afshin is the Iran Dancer who could put all his afford, energy, even his life for his dream, dancing. Yet, in Iran, dance is one of the prohibited activities in Iran. Afshin never give up, and formed the underground dance group with his mind-liked friends. They have broken through the blocking of government, and then, they climbed over the barriers, and he could learn the wonderful pace from Michael Jackson, and Pina Bausch. Their dance group have training all the times, in form of guerilla, after that, they dare to organize a public performance in desert, they dance freely, enjoy the show freely, yes, Afshin is called “Desert Dancer”.

Underground private party and desert show are in term of a symptom, Afshin is different from the surrounding people. In the underground private party, he prefers to learn dancing form YouTube, rather than enjoy food, drink and free talk as other people. Desert, a place only the special plants and animals could survive, but Afshin dance in there. It’s an adventure, enjoy the suddenly freedom, enjoy freedom and Art, a symptom of victory, confrontation with and defeated the militia.

His mind, from the remote, dry prison, enter the moisture and freedom land, whatever the limitations are, he is a desert warrior. Fortunately, he has several good friends and would assist Afshin to challenge the militia. Finally, he could latent, then leave Iran.

Synopsis

Set in Iran, where dance is illegal, Desert Dancer tells the story of Afshin Ghaffarian who risked his life to fight for his dream to become a dancer.  With YouTube as his teacher, Afshin starts an underground dance group at university with his friends. As their skills increase Afshin and his group are determined to put on a secret performance far out in the desert. On their return, Afshin and his friends join the millions on the streets as they protest and march for their freedom. Captured by the militia, Afshin is taken back to the desert to be executed. He manages to escape but finding himself a marked man, he flees to France. In Paris, he is granted asylum and awarded free entry to Paris’ most prestigious dance school.

Desert Dancer is a inspiring true story about young people risking it all to fight for the most basic of human rights and live their dreams.
