It’s summertime and the "International Children’s Film Carnival 2014" come again. Let’s immerse in great fun with family and friends. 

Feature Films 

This year, carnival brings in 10 new feature films for all young cinephiles. Animation is children’s all-time favorite. We have AninA from South America, who is getting trouble with her name. If Anina has the magic pencil that Topper has in Otto is a Rhino maybe she would use it to correct those mistakes she has made. Talking about mistakes, how should we forget the mistake made by the twin sisters in Pim & Pom: the Big Adventure? It’s all because of their reckless act that Pim and Pom have to take a dangerous journey like the rabbit Johan in Beyond Beyond.

Do you believe in ghosts? Are ghosts friendly or not? Can the superheroes defeat ghosts? In The Little Ghost and Vampire Sisters, ghost and vampire are anything but horrible. They are fun lovers, just like any of us. Though they are getting themselves into big trouble, but fortunately with the help of good friends they don’t have to ask the Antboy for help.

Being young doesn’t mean being ignorant of worries and sadness. Mika in Windstorm is not happy because she cannot get along with her parents. Ricky of Ricky – Three’s a Crowd is standing at the crossroad of loyalty and love and doesn’t know what to do. It will be wonderful if Mr. Kees of Mister Twister, Class of Fun is able to give him some support and advice.

Film Tunnel 

Released 43 years ago, the musical Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a sweet feast. The feast started when a 10-year-old girl finished reading author Roald Dahl’s fantastic story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She asked her director father to make it into a film. So her father asked the author to write the screenplay and there, with the magic of the celluloid, the chocolate fall, candy trees and mushroom desert all come to life on screen.

Years later, another director Tim Burton reopens the door of the candy house with actor Johnny Depp, who plays Willy Wonka.

Now we can go back to the first Willy Wonka chocolate factory and have a taste of the sweetness of its candies.

Specials for Youth

It takes great courage and persistence to pursue one’s own dream, especially in a conventional society. Sawsan of The Contest and Sepideh of Sepideh are two Turkish and Iranian young girls who are brought up in Islamic families. Both are bounded by their own culture and tradition. They have to make great breakthroughs in order to pursue their dreams. Yet both show great courage in breaking conventional rules and realizing their own dreams.

We should be doing better than these two girls since we are living in a place that is far more liberal than their hometowns.

World Animation & Shorts

The two programmes of this year’s World Animation & Shorts are far more excited than previous years.

World Animation & Shorts 1 consists of nine animations from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and South Korea. Let us follow the lovely animals and children into the Kingdom of joy and fantasy.

World Animation & Shorts 2 highlights five animations from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea and Hong Kong. It includes the companion film to the hugely successful The Gruffalo and other adventures.
