German Film Forum: A Year Ago in Winter

With its first screening back in 1994, German Film Forum has become Goethe-Institute Hong Kong’s longest running film event. Over the years, we have shown hundreds of German films of various genres and topics.

A Year Ago in Winter

A grieving woman commissions a painter to do a portrait of her children: her 22-year-old daughter and, most surprisingly, her 19-year-old son, who recently died in a tragic accident. As the painter struggles to perfect his portrait, the stormy interaction between artist and subjects brings forth the intense psychological state of a complex family. A powerful story which the tragic loss of a loved one becomes the catalyst for each family member to rediscover themselves and redefine their relationships.
